Iowa Law Library Hours

During the Thanksgiving holiday, the Law Library will have the following reduced hours: Our collection – print, electronic and microform – is one of the best in the country. We are the largest public university law library in the country and one of the top three university libraries, public or private. Our resources include domestic, international, comparative and foreign law. Wireless printing: Visitors can print documents wirelessly in the law library by first signing up for a free Papercut account. Ask an employee of the Staatsbibliothek for instructions. The library`s grand hall in the “Victorian style” is decorated with a richly decorated tiled floor, which is paralleled by its finely painted ceiling and stained glass inserts. The entire library is 45 feet high and is flanked by alcoves lined with books. Two pointed wrought iron spiral staircases at opposite ends of the library connect the four levels, which are lined with shelves filled with books. a total of approximately 105,000 volumes. Since August 17, the Law Library has extended its hours of operation and now opens on Sundays at 10 a.m. Sunday reference times have also changed, with a reference librarian available from 13:00 to 17:00. Small Room in the northeast corner of the Law Library houses a special collection dedicated to Arthur James Small, State Law Librarian from 1896 to 1937. It was during Small`s tenure that English, Roman, and international legal records essential to the establishment of the legal system and governance of the United States were added to the law library`s collection. While acquisition, housing, and access to legal information have been the mission of the State Law Library since its inception, it was Small who had the foresight to target these records. Currently, some of the founding documents that would have helped Iowa`s pioneering legislators are preserved in the small A.J. room. Staff at the Staatsbibliothek offer guided tours by appointment. Iowa Collection: Located directly across from the entrance doors to the Law Library and next to windows overlooking downtown, the Iowa Collection contains non-fiction books about Iowa and Iowans. From bustling towns to quiet small towns and unique landscapes, learn about Hawkeye State`s history, heritage, people, hobbies, and nature. Titles can be borrowed from the information desk with an identity card from the Staatsbibliothek or search for the collection online in the Staatsbibliothek catalogue.
