It is fair to say that a volleyball substitution is a kind of interruption of play. Substitution involves replacing volleyball players during the match. Each replacement must be noted by the marker on the sheet. When replacing volleyball players with others, a volleyball team must follow the replacement rules. If a team violates the replacement rules, volleyball players are subject to penalties. As a coach, you need to have a solid understanding of the replacement rules, but it`s also good to teach them to your team and even their parents. The more familiar everyone around you is with what happens when players enter and exit games, the less you need to explain during tournaments. This reduces distractions and allows you to focus on what`s most important: coaching the team.

Volleyball substitutions are requested differently. Replacement in volleyball is requested either by the second referee or by the scorer. Replacement shall be authorized by the second arbitrator. The second referee blows the whistle and the scorer uses the buzzer to request the substitution during the game. When FIVB tournaments or official world and official volleyball competitions are held, numbered paddles are used to request a replacement during the match. A substitution is considered illegal if the team has exceeded the substitution limit during a match or if a player is replaced by an unregistered player. It should be noted that a volleyball team is punished if a volleyball player is illegally replaced. All points scored by the service team while an illegal substitute player was on the court during the set will be forfeited.
