R. Male wrestlers MUST wear shorts. Women must wear shorts and a sports bra. Question 3. Can clothing worn during the alpha score weigh-in be considered? One. No, it cannot be taken into account. 4-2-1: ART. 1. During the competition, all wrestlers must be clean-shaven, with sideburns cut no deeper than the earlobe level. A carefully trimmed mustache that does not reach below the line of the lower lip is allowed. Facial hair cut to a length so that the skin is visible for medical examinations is allowed. Facial hair that does not allow for proper medical examination by an appropriate health care professional supervising the medical examinations should be immediately trimmed according to the guidelines.
A wrestler cannot weigh in the competition until the facial hair is cut and the medical examination is completed. Physical hair treatment items that are hard and/or abrasive, such as beads, hairpins, hair clips, needles, hair clips, etc. or other hair control devices) are not allowed. Hair control devices and other beautifications in the hair that are securely tied and do not pose an increased risk to the wrestler, teammate or opponent are allowed. A legal device controlled by the hair such as elastics must be fixed so as not to come out easily during the fight. A wrestler can store his hair in a legal hair blanket. The legal hair cover, when worn, must be attached to the hearing protection. A bandana is not considered a legal hair cover. The legal hair cover must be made of a strong, non-abrasive material. The wrestler who chooses a legal hair cover must wear it for weighing and be checked for care. The legal hair cover must be removed before the wrestler steps on the weighing scale. If no referee is present at the weigh-in, the capillary cover must be checked by the referee when it appears on site.
Following a concerted effort to accommodate the growing number of female wrestlers, changes to the 2020-21 high school wrestling rules will be marked by significant adjustments to the weighing protocol and reasonable hair length requirements. With the introduction of the legal uniform (one-piece or two-piece undershirt), male and female wrestlers can now meet in the same formation, which removes gendered language from all three rules. In addition, the tight-fitting compression shirt provides women with a more suitable uniform for post-weigh-in skin checks, usually performed by male agents. “These rule changes are among the most prolific changes in high school wrestling history,” said Elliot Hopkins, NFHS director of athletics and student services and liaison to the wrestling rules committee. “The Rules Committee has made necessary and drastic changes to attract more young people to our sport without sacrificing the health and safety of participants.” 3. No wrestler may represent the school in more than one weight class in a meeting or wrestle in more than five matches (championship or consolation), except for losses on a day of competition. Exception: No wrestler can wrestle in more than six matches (championship or consolation), except for losses on one day of a tournament organized by the State High School Association for qualification for the state high school championships or the championships themselves. Weighting with a legal uniform allowed the Committee to remove other gender-related barriers with subsequent amendments to articles 4-5-1, 4-5-2 and 4-5-4. Previously, weigh-ins consisted of side-by-side rows of each participant, which were separated by gender (4-5-2), took place no more than one hour before the competition (4-5-1) and required the supervision of a referee of the respective gender (4-5-4). The weighing procedure was modified by a combination of changes to Rule 4, Section 5 (Weighing) of the Wrestling Rulebook. Following a change to the legal uniform under Rule 4-1-1c, which now allows wrestlers to wear a tight-fitting compression shirt that completely covers their chest in addition to a one-piece undershirt and appropriate underwear, Rule 4-5-7 was rewritten to require that a legal uniform be worn at the weigh-in and that no additional weight permits be granted.
